Delta 2027: PDP Settles For Mrakpor SAN As Consensus Governorship Candidate

…..Says “I’ll Serve Only One Term, Let’s Fix Delta Together

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday adopted Dr. Peter Adogbejire Mrakpor SAN, as its sole consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 Delta State governorship election during the party primaries held at Southend Event Centre, DBS Road, Asaba.

The exercise witnessed the presence of top PDP national and regional leaders including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, National Secretary, Sam Anyanwu, South South PDP Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Kingsley Otuaro, members of the PDP Board of Trustees, INEC officials and members of the party electoral committee.

It was gathered that Dr. Mrakpor emerged unopposed after reportedly becoming the only aspirant who duly purchased, submitted and was cleared with the party’s governorship nomination form.

The primaries also attracted PDP House of Assembly candidates from the 25 local government areas of the state, House of Representatives candidates, Senatorial candidates, party stakeholders and faithful who stormed the venue in solidarity.

In his acceptance speech, an excited Mrakpor thanked party leaders, stakeholders and faithful for believing in him and supporting what he described as a collective Delta project.

According to him, “This ticket belongs to all of us. It belongs to you and me. We have a lot of work to do for Delta State.”

The PDP flagbearer declared that he would serve only one term of four years if elected governor, insisting that fairness and equity must prevail among the ethnic nationalities in the state.

“Let me be straight with you all, I am running for only four years. After my tenure, the remaining ethnic nationalities should also have the opportunity. I will do only one term,” he declared to loud applause from party faithfuls.

Mrakpor SAN also took a swipe at politicians who recently defected from the PDP to the APC, describing their move as a “misadventure.”
“We told those who ran away to APC that it was a misadventure, but they did not believe us.

Today, some of them are returning quietly to tell us things are difficult over there,” he said.
Promising to reposition Delta State within four years, the PDP candidate assured Deltans that his administration would focus heavily on industrialisation, Transportation,Health Agriculture, Education, Housing, Electricity and security, infrastructure and restoring confidence in governance.

“We have come to correct the abnormalities in the system. Within four years, Delta State will be turned around. We shall rebuild the security architecture that has collapsed. People may argue, how can I use four years to do all these things, go and read about Obafemi Awolowo, he uses only four years to do what many couldn’t do for eight years. Ona go join me fix Delta. Na four years we agree,” Mrakpor stated.
